Also Old Bolshevik Guard, Old Party Guard. Unofficial designation for those who joined the Bolshevik party before the Revolution of 1917.

In 1922, there were over forty-four thousand Old Bolsheviks. Many of this elite group were executed for treason, sent to labor camps, or died under suspicious circumstances during Stalin’s purges of the 1930s.
