Bolshevik

Bolshevik

The word Bolshevik is derived from a Russian word for majority. The Bolsheviks got their name when they achieved majority in a 1903 vote that split their faction from a party to which they had previously belonged.

The remainder of the party was known as Menshevik, a word derived from a Russian word for minority. Bolsheviks became the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
